*most naturally curious of all types-life long learners
*knowledge about any subject— they are thorough and complex
*their knowledge is so deep and extensive on a favorite topic it is difficult for them to give a succinct explanation
*take an offbeat path through education
*even when very young they are quiet for long periods of time- thinking things through publicly shy and extremely watchful
*love building materials and puzzles —open ended
*avoid anything they can’t master
*they gain more freedom as they age
*move from books to cyberspace, computers,video, puzzles etc for entertainment
*state the exact truth— they trust logical reasoning
*love the world of ideas—they want to analyze the world not run it— they are stoic, and impersonal
*strong need to privacy and their own space— they are fiercely independent
*egalitarian— honor knowledge not positions, authority or hierarchy
*love to work with systems— want to design & understand the creative and new
*set high standards for others but will set higher standards for themselves

Cautions

*don’t always know how to respond to an overly emotional appeal
*need a great deal of time alone
*may have difficulty relating to their peers—at times they may appear eccentric or anti-social to their peers
*may not be verbally responsive to fellow classmate or teachers
*frustrated by redundant tasks or routine
*may ignore details on a project and once the vision exists but execution does not always follow
*while they concentrate on planning, analyzing, categorizing, criticizing, or theorizing other people may seem an unwelcome intrusion
*deadlines can be a stumbling block for the INTP —- they can sometimes appear too casual or flexible about projects or assignments
*they may avoid any type of conflict—prefer a calm learning environment
*may have no patience with those not as intellectually adept as they may be seen as arrogant—often out of touch with the feelings and interpersonal interactions
*more energy for starting projects than completing them
*can mystify others with their complex verbalization or technical abilities
*intellectualize their emotions as they can feel overwhelmed at times by—their communications can be awkward, terse, logical and verbally precise—has a need for relationships but difficulty attaining them
*can become obsessed with analysis
*they have no patience for trivial or non-sensical discussions
*if they feel pressured ( social pressures) they may just reject the person or group
*a bit removed from people ( even parents)
*can be very sarcastic if they think a rule is unfair or the procedure is illogical or unjust
